For many of us the Christmas season is a special time to share the warmth of love and laughter with those we love. The sad thing is that many people find Christmas a very lonely time of year. They have no family left or friends are few and busy with their lives and families of their own. There are many different circumstances that people find themselves in that make Christmas not the happy time that the rest of us enjoy.

Have you ever stopped to wonder what it is that makes Christmas time so special? Is it the gifts? Is it parties? Is it the hussle and bussle of trying to find that perfect something for the one you love?

To be very honest with you, there have been years when I have had plenty of money (not rolling in the dough mind you ) and there were other years that we were just not as fortunate. Those were the hard years when I didn't have the money to go and buy the special gifts for my children. I remember how badly I felt knowing that their friends were getting the latest toys and I luckily had some gifts given to me from the society for the poor. My point in telling you this is so that you will understand where I am coming from.I would not like to relive the poor years again, BUT, I did learn a big lesson. Christmas is not in the packages.

CHRISTMAS IS IN THE LOVE THAT IS SHARED.

Love is not something that needs a special day to express itself. Giving love to others is not dependant on your bank account either, nor does it take weeks of your time to prepare for. Love is such a simple gift and yet so easy to give. A simple smile given to a stranger, or a friendly hello…these are little gifts of love that can be given on a daily basis. The funny thing about giving freely of love is that it is not like money that diminishes as you use it. No, love actually replenishes itself and grows as you give it unto others. What a wonderful thing love is !!!

Let us remember to keep the spirit of Christmas with us all through the year and then we can make every day like Christmas for those around us, the rich and poor, the healthy the sick…Little acts of love committed to daily can change your world and those around you.

Yes, everyday can be just like Christmas if we keep the spirit of love and giving of ourselves to others.

Merry Christmas
Sharron
<!--

For some reason we think there is greener pasture on the other side or that we do not possess the characteristics necessary to fulfill our dreams.

From a very young age, many of us are told that we can not do this or that because we do not have the talent or that we are not wise enough, or strong enough, or smart enough. What happens is that we end up living our lives in character with what others have told us about ourselves and in our personal belief system about ourselves.

This jaded view of ourselves keeps us from doing the things we dream of doing. Many of us yearn for a magic wizard that would come along and bestow the qualities we feel are missing so we can do more with our lives.

For this reason we are afraid to step forward and go for our dreams. We feel inadequate to fulfill the calling ahead of us. From past experience we can see none of the characteristics necessary for us to reach our goal, our destination.

What many of us were never told, is that we are all given those things necessary in life for us to move ahead, but because of our past experiences and lack of self confidence we tend to shrink back from going forward in our lives.

Many people do not realize that self confidence comes from succeeding in an area that we wish to excel in. Success itself is not a one time event. In fact, it takes many failures and learning from our mistakes that make us eventually self reliant and confident.

Remember when you first started riding a two wheel bike. It’s something that you really wanted to do. You saw your friends riding and were certain that it was something you could do. What happened? You tried and you most miserably failed. You would go a few short feet and then wobble and then bingo! You would fall again. Did you give up?

No! You got right back on that bike and kept practicing until you succeeded.

The great baseball hero Babe Ruth was known for his fantastic batting. He could hit a ball right out of the park! Did he just get up one day and say, “Hey, I’m gonna hit every ball out of the park”? No, of course not. Sure, it was probably his dream to hit as many as he could out of the park but he knew in reality he needed to practice and practice, and hit and miss and eventually he would hit more than he would miss. Every ball player has a batting average. This means that they hit a number of balls but it also means that miss a lot of the balls or end up walking to base or striking out.

We may have specific goals. We want to hit that ball, but we must be prepared to fail in order to succeed. As we fail, we learn better how to hold the bat the next time or at what angle we need to swing the bat to hit the ball head on. Even if we become super proficient at this, there will still be times when we just miss the ball. That is part of life, but unless we get up to bat we will not be in the game.

What about your dreams, are you giving them a fair shot. Sure you may not be perfect! Who is? The thing is, that you have to go after your dreams and not let failure or lack of self confidence hold you back.

Just like the scarecrow, the lion and the tin man, we must go through the adversity and step forward in faith. Along the journey we will find that indeed we do have the qualities that we were longing for.

Sharron Myers

Copyright March 2006

<!--

It’s the same thing every year. The goals that people set for themselves are usually along the lines of, “I want to lose weight”, “ I want to quit smoking”, “I want to exercise more” etc. Newsletters and Magazines are full of articles on how to accomplish these things.

Although the normal resolutions are good and healthy for you, they make you focus on negative aspects of your life, essentially, what you should not be doing…smoking, eating badly, being lazy etc. The problem I see with these resolutions is that it makes people think negatively and feel guilty, especially when February rolls around and they realize that they were not able to keep up with their resolutions. By thinking negatively, we set ourselves up for failure.

I want to suggest something different to you. Let us not dwell on new year resolutions that go down the drain by February, let’s focus on something a little different. Positive thinking brings results. Results make us happy and content. When we are content and focused on positive things we will find that many negative aspects of our lives fall away on their own. It is as if the body says, “I don’t need these negative things in my life anymore” and voila, they drop away without effort.

My suggestion to you is that this year we dwell on positive things. Instead of dwelling on what we want to rid ourselves of this year, let us dwell on what positive things we want to see in our lives. Let us focus on our dreams and make them a reality in our lives.

Many people don’t give much time thinking about making their dreams come true. They are caught up in the rat race of life and a worldly way of thinking. My suggestion is that we focus on a more spiritual way of thinking. Let us take the time to think about what we really want in life and then focus on setting goals that will bring us closer to our dreams.

Yes, even when following your dreams, one must set goals or we will never accomplish that which we dream of. Don’t get caught up in wishful thinking but put some action behind your thoughts. The secret to realizing your dreams is to break your objective into small steps. Ask yourself, “What do I need to do in order to accomplish this goal?” then break it down into bite size pieces.

This week we drove from Hamburg to Munich because we had to check out our new apartment and see about my fiancé’s new job out there. It is a very long drive and if you drive fast and push your limits (which most people want to do) you can make the journey in 8 hours. BUT, if you don’t want to stress yourself out, you have to make sure you take time for breaks and stretching so it ends up taking between 10-12 hours, depending on traffic etc. Then you end up at the end of the journey relaxed. Tired still, but relaxed ;-)

Think of your dreams as your destination. It may not be right around the corner, most dreams aren’t, but if you have patience, and pace yourself you WILL arrive at your destination. The problem most people run into with goal setting is that we think we can accomplish it much faster if we push themselves to the limit. When we hit problems that will slow us down, we end up getting frustrated and often give up. If, we would relax and think clearly when we hit a roadblock to our dreams, we would be able to figure out alternative routes to our destination. Detours do not mean failure and stalled traffic does not mean that we must give up and forget about our destination. We will reach our goals if we relax, persevere and be willing to figure out alternatives to our situation. We don’t need to drive ourselves like maniacs in order to reach our destination. Life is not the autobahn!

Road plan to your dreams:
Figure out what you want the most in life. What is your dream?
Set small, realistic steps so you can clearly map out the way to your destination, your dream. Remember that you cannot swim the ocean.
Be prepared to take an alternative route if you run into roadblocks.
Don’t give up. You WILL reach your destination.

This new year, let us think about the positive things we want in our life. Take the time now, to think about what you really want and then set about making up your road plan. Wishful thinking won’t accomplish anything. Make plans and follow your dreams!

“Shoot for the moon, if you miss at least you will end up amongst the stars”- Author unknown

To Live the Life You Want, Learn the Skills You Need:
http://www.sharron-myers.com
<!--

I want you to know that I am a real person and haven't just set up this blog just to post my articles. I will be posting my articles hoping to help some of you along the way, but my main purpose is to motivate.

Somone asked me once, "Are motivators, always motivated?" The answer is "Not always". We get the same stuff coming into our lives as you do. We too have bad days, but we try to overcome it by not dwelling on the negative and trying to find solutions to our problems instead of letting our problems overwhelm us.

For every problem there is a solution, you just have to calm yourself enough to be able to see it. If you keep doing the same things over and over again, you are going to get the same results.

Hopefully that helps some of you out there :)

Sharron Myers
http://www.sharron-myers.com
<!--

There is a whole industry set up to make us feel inadequate. We are not thin enough, or not rich enough, or not hip enough because we are not buying the latest products on the market. The message rings loud and clear: We are not good enough!!! .

How many times have you found yourself saying, “If only _________ then I could be happy “ The problem is that if we get caught up in this way of thinking we will never be happy because there is always something more we will think we need to complete our lives.

Paul Reid said, “Poverty is a state of mind often brought on by the neighbours new car” In other words, when we see our friends and neighbours acquiring things, we often feel poor because we cannot afford these luxuries. But, in reality we are not poverty stricken, we only think we are poor. This state of mind is purely relative to whom you are comparing yourself to. If you were to change your thinking and look at the homeless, then you would realize how truly rich you are. You have a roof over your head, and food on the table. Okay, so maybe it’s not your dream house and maybe you are eating peanut butter sandwiches and not caviar, but you are sheltered and fed. Believe it or not, some people do not even have these basics.

Most people do not realize the benefits of gratitude. When we sit and think about all the things we want but don’t have we set ourselves up in a downward spiral of disappointment and negative thinking which can lead to overwork, and depression. Gratitude, on the other hand, lifts our spirits and gives us a clearer focus on life as it really is. We will be content with what we have and therefore our attitude will bring us a spirit of peace and contentment.

You may say to yourself, but I don’t have much! Well then be thankful for the little things you do have. Do you have a roof over your head? Do you have someone who loves you? Do you have someone you love? Do you have food on your table? Do you have your health? Do you have a job? Do you have a pillow to sleep on?...a blanket to keep warm? Do you have your sanity? These are little things but even the smallest things we can be thankful for.

Someone once said, “If you haven’t all the things you want, at least be grateful for the things you don’t have that you wouldn’t want.”

There is always something we can find to be grateful for.

I know this sounds simplistic and I know that there are always things that many of us truly need…but if we start changing our attitudes and develop an attitude of gratitude then we will be in a better position to allow our positive thoughts to direct us in a way in which we can achieve more.

Gratitude is the first step in achieving the things you want to achieve in life. Viki King said, “You won't be happy with more until you're happy with what you've got.”

Let us make every effort to get rid of these negative thoughts that hinder our life’s journey and learn to develop positive thoughts that will help us achieve our goals.

Don’t wait until Thanksgiving rolls around each year to be thankful. Make it a point to develop in your daily life an attitude of Gratitude.

This article is bought to you by Sharron Myers
sharronmyers@googlemail.com

Sharron Myers has been a teacher of Spiritual Truth for over 30 years. Nature is constantly changing and yet, so many people have the notion that change is frightening.

People are creatures of habit and some find it difficult to adjust to changes that are certain to come our way. Life is like an old, comfortable pair of shoes. We may realize that we need new ones and we may even find new ones we really like, but, we know that changing will cause us discomfort for a little while until we break them in.

Sometimes we need to realize that life isn’t always easy. What may be better for us is not what we are used to, but it is certainly worth the trouble of breaking in new habits and lifestyle changes.

Change does not have to be painful. Just look to nature and it will give you clues to how change can be effortless. The beautifully colored autumn leaves do not hang on to the old tree for dear life. No, they yield to the changes with ease and float gently off the tree.

With the coming of autumn we have been busy in our gardens pulling up the old stuff and getting ready for a time of rest. We know that the ground must rest and next year there will be more wonderful things in our garden to delight us.

Are there things in your life that need to be gently eased out of your life? Maybe there are bad relationships or habits or thoughts that need to be weeded out of your life. Don’t be afraid to do a little gardening in your own life.

Every gardener knows that unless we get to the roots, we really are not getting rid of the problem. It may go away for awhile but unless we get to the root, it will sneak back into the garden very quickly.

Although the harvest time is here there is no time to stop weeding the garden of our minds. This garden needs constant attention in order for us to flourish and be all that we can be. The only way to keep this garden in top shape is to make sure that no weeds are there trying to strangle any good we are trying to do. The weeds of our mind, of course are negative thoughts that like to creep in and keep us from achieving that which we are striving for.

William James said, “Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds, can change the outer aspects of their lives.

How do we change the inner attitudes of our minds? By changing the way we think. We must put fear and negativity behind us. How, you ask? Just as the leaves of autumn gently blow from the tree, don’t try and make a change in your thinking over night and expect to get instant results. We cannot rip these thoughts out of our minds, as much as we would like to sometimes. No, we need to be gentle on ourselves and let positive thoughts replace the negative.

Yes it will take some work on your part. You must constantly fill your mind with positive thoughts. Proverbs 27: 3 says, As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. We are what we think. When the negative thoughts come into your mind, you must be ready and willing to replace those thoughts with positive ones. Just say to yourself, no, I won’t let that thought take over my mind, I will think positively. Affirmations are good to have readily available so you can replace the negative thought with the positive one. It won’t be easy, it won’t be hard either, it will just be different, like that new pair of shoes we were talking about earlier.

The autumn leaves fall to make way for new life. We too must go through changes that will bring new growth to our bodies, souls and spirits.

Change is inevitable, so why fight it? Why be afraid of it? Yes, change will require us to do a bit of readjusting but it is always worth it. Don’t be afraid of change, a change will do you good.

This article is bought to you by Sharron Myers

Sharron Myers has been a teacher of Spiritual Truth for over 30 years. Usually they involve, losing weight, quitting smoking, and joining a gym, just to mention a few.

What about you? What News Year Resolution have you planned for this year?

Have you considered the benefits of improving your mind? Usually, this is the last thing people consider, but in reality it’s one of the best things you can do for yourself and those around you.

People who want to build their muscles know that it takes time to work on specific areas in order for the muscles to develop properly and these same people will pay big bucks to join the local gym to work on these areas and yet they forget to invest in things that will enrich their minds.

By enriching your mind and building yourself up mentally you will be able to challenge yourself to take on other areas of your life that need improvement. Your life is influenced by your thought processes.

You can learn to build up the muscles in your mind, so to speak, and strengthen your inner man with positive goal producing thoughts.

Most New Year Resolutions fail, mainly because people do not have the proper mind set to set proper goals and lack the ability to make a roadmap that will lead them to success.

What is it you want for you and your family next year? Doesn’t investing in yourself by improving your mind make sense.

You don’t need to spend thousands of dollars in order to benefit from the great motivators of the world. People such as Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy and Les Brown can be heard via your computer for about the cost of a cup of coffee per day!

What are you waiting for?

Make this year the best year ever by investing in your mind!

Is it the hustle and bustle of trying to find that perfect something for the one you love?

To be very honest with you, there have been years when I have had plenty of money (not rolling in the dough mind you ) and there were other years that we were just not as fortunate. Those were the hard years when I didn’t have the money to go and buy the special gifts for my children. I remember how badly I felt knowing that their friends were getting the latest toys and I luckily had some gifts given to me from the society for the poor. My point in telling you this is so that you will understand where I am coming from.

I would not like to relive the poor years again, BUT, I did learn a big lesson.

Christmas has just passed and I am sitting here wondering about the New Year coming up. You know, the normal stuff, what has the year been like in 2005, how can I change things for 2006.

I find it very introspective, especially since the New Year also brings about a real new year for me as my birthday is January 3rd. This is the biggy for me. I will be 50 years old this year. There are lots of things to think about. How my life has gone so far, what mistakes I’ve made, how can I change things for the rest of my life…you know the common things one thinks about with a new year approaching.

I’ve written quite a few articles that I hope to put up in the blog for you. Most are motivational articles but I also have some stuff to say about size acceptance and self-love. I also want to take the opportunity to give my views on the “church” today. I am in the midst of writing a book entitled “The Pharisee Phenomena”. I see a lot of legalism and emotional abuse going on in the churches and I want to take my stand on that.

I am currently involved in Success University and I am so happy to have stumbled upon it. They are a personal development site with great audio and video content from some of the top speakers available, such as Jim Rohn and Les Brown, Tony Alasandra among others. You can check it out by going here: www.sharron-myers.com

Hopefully you will enjoy the things I have to offer. If I don’t get anything up soon, I hope you all have a very Happy New Year and hope your dreams for 2006 come true. Keep tuned because I will try and help you make your dreams a reality by writing the motivational articles.

All the best
Sharron
<!--
